So the Democratic National Committee is calling for a recount in the recent special election to replace Duke Cunningham, the Republican Representative from California's 50th district. Why? (1) The federal and state (California) governments have decreed that if voting machines of the type used in the election are stored insecurely, and various seals on them broken prior to election day, such machines are decertified for use (and thus illegal to use?) in an election; and (2) election workers say the voting machines used were stored insecurely (as in, unguarded at workers' houses) and their tamper seals broken.
