Computer Recycling, Hazardous Waste, Greenpeace Donation

Discarded Circuit Boards in Guiyu ChinaBBC News reports on Greenpeace's study of people's attitudes on e-waste:
"The nine-nation research found that UK computer users were willing to pay an extra £64 ($117), while people in China were prepared for spend up to £108 ($197) for a more environmentally sound PC."
Unfortunately, nowhere in the BBC News article or the Greenpeace news release do they say how much extra (if anything) U.S. residents are willing to pay for less environmentally-damaging computers.
The report came out at the same time as Dell announced that they'd phase out BFRs and PVC from their computers by 2009; they're joining a bunch of other large electronics companies that are committing to reducing the use of toxic chemicals in their products.
(Meanwhile, Marginal Revolution quotes Giles Slade: "In 2004 about 315 million working PCs were retired in North America... In 2005 more than 100 million cell phones were discarded in the United States.")
