New Blog Software, Berkeley Bloggers' Dinner

I mentioned it in the archived version of my website, but not here, apparently - I've recently switched my blogging software from the home-grown beast I developed years ago to Drupal. My main reasons for doing so:

  1. I wanted to enable comments in my blog, but not have to outsource their hosting or roll my own commenting system
  2. I wanted a good RSS aggregator - not a desktop one, but one I could access from anywhere and could share with others
  3. I wanted a good way to provide an RSS feed of my blog entries
  4. I wanted better online photo-managing/viewing software; and Gallery, which can plug into Drupal, seems to fit the bill

That's why some URLs are messed up and it can be hard to navigate to old content (go here for the stuff still in my old system). Hopefully I'll have things moved over in the next few weeks...

Earlier tonight (last night by now), I attended the Berkeley Bloggers' Dinner. Never been to a bloggers' dinner before; there was some fairly interesting discussion about blogging trends, podcasts and the problems with them, etc. Most interesting URL I came away with was for the steephill.tv bike travelogue - pictures and videos from various bicycling trips and races. Good for at least a few visits, I'd say. The food (Himalayan/Indian) was a lot less spicy than I like, though, and too slow to come (hard to blame the restaurant for that - 30 people in a small restaurant on a Thursday night). The organizers say next time, they'll hold the dinner at a place with a buffet...
